Gordon Reef

Gordon is the first of the 4 reefs in the Straight of Tiran and it has the wreck of the Lovilla on top since 1981.
Because Gordon is one of the bigger reefs and because of the big sandy plateau on the south side it has various moorings.
Because of this the site is often used to rest for lunch and snorkeling.

Thomas Reef

Thomas is the smallest of the 4 reefs but a very interesting one.
Because of it's small size the current can be tricky, but there is always a way to make a dive on it.
Thomas has no mooring so needs to be done as a drift dive.
At the start of your dive you will find a steep wall that plateaus out on 30 meter to a small plateau after which it drops steep down again.
On the corner the plateau disappears and there is just a steep wall. Look down here because this is the place where the sharks hang out.
If the current and the weather permit it you can continue to the backside of the reef and surface there. The back has some small caves that the baby white-tip sharks like to use as a hang-out.

Keep an eye on the blue and the deep as well as looking to the reef as big pelagic fish may be passing by.

The side is only suited for experienced divers.

Woodhouse Reef

Woodhouse is the longest reef of the 4 reefs in Tiran.
Its length makes it perfect for drift diving.
The reef plate drops down to a small ledge in 30 meters. As you continue your dive this ledge gets slowly shallower.
At the end of the reef the ledge is only 12 meters deep and there is some scattered wood laying around.
This is where you need to stop or turn around as the corner can have a very strong current that also pulls you down. Know locally as the washing machine.

The wall has lots of nice soft corals and some black corals which host the long nose hawkfish.

Jackson Reef

The northern-most reef on the ledge in the middle of the straight of Tiran.
It is easily recognized by the remnants of the wreckage of the Lara on top of the reef plate.
Jackson can be dived in many different ways on the front and on the back, but on all dives one has to be aware of the possible currents.
The front of Jackson has on both sides a nice coral garden and in between a steep wall.

In the gardens one can find all the marine life that Sharm has to offer, with even the turtle regularly visiting.
On the back one can dive in the blue and if you are lucky you will see the hammerhead sharks.

North & South Lagoon

The lagoon of Tiran Island is often used for the break between dives and to have lunch.
The inside of the bay is shallow, sandy with some coral heads.
The outside has a very nice reef and is divided in a north and a south part.
North laguna has a nice sloping wall with big table and fan and fire  corals.
South Laguna also slopes but more gradually and has a plateau full of hard corals.

Both reefs are prone to currents  so are best done drift diving.

Kormoran

This dive-site caan only be reached if the weather is favorable as it is on the wind side.
The Kormoran is a wreck that was built in 1963 and sunk in 1984.  It was coming from Aqaba with a cargo of phosphate when an error in the navigation caused it to hit the reef.
The impact was tremendous and caused the ship to cracck and sink.
Now scuba divers can enjoy the ship under the water.
The ship lays in shallow water, maximum 15 meters deep and is surrounded by a lovely reef.

The wreck is suited for all divers beginners as well.

A lovely afternoon dive when the sea is calm.
